Painted Skin

King Hu’s 1993 horror film, Painted skin, was unfortunately a boring film. Painted skin follows the story of a scholar who attempts to marry a concubine who ends up being a spirit trapped between the human world, heaven and underworld. An evil spirit also chases down the concubine in order to drag her back to he underworld.

Another problem with this film is the lack of a consistent protagonist. Originally this film begins with the Scholar’s perspective, but eventually the perspective shifted to the concubines perspective as the the scholar becomes possessed by the yin yang King.

As my final film I will be watching from King Hu this semester, I would not recommend this film to others, unless they are wishing to see the digression of King hu’s film career.
