The Fate of Lee Khan

Introducing King Hu’s first independent film, The Fate of Lee Khan has become my favorite film from him so far. In this film we follow the lives of the tavern workers and warrior travelers who conspire to eliminate a corrupt political figure. The action sequences were amazing the story was very engaging, and unfolds similarly to a mystery film. This story and characters felt fleshed out by the end and the the arc felt finished without adding any unnecessary excess scenes.

Each of the scenes in the film seemed to have a purpose and everything tied in together. If Hu had introduced a rebel gang earlier, he would bring them back into the story near the end. The film felt complete and displayed the directors vision very clearly. This was a great film to watch, I loved the film’s structure, action and characters. This is a film I would definitely recommend others to watch.
